Use the links below to download the latesest Version of BOOKS, Version 7.
The release date for this version is October 11, 1999.
This Version runs in Windows 95,98, and Windows NT.
The installation file is a single file, about 7 MB, named BOOKS7.EXE. You
can download it to any directory. For example, you can download to C:\TEMP\BOOKS7.EXE.
If asked what to do with the file, choose SAVE TO DISK.

Now use the RUN command in the START menu to run BOOKS7.EXE. For Example,
if you downloaded to the directory C:\TEMP, then type "C:\TEMP\BOOKS7.EXE"
in the RUN command.
If you are sharing access to your BOOKS data on a network, use the above
procedure to install BOOKS onto a network disk drive, and then download
and run the workstation software installer. For detailed instructions:

If you need to create installation diskettes, use the link below to
download the file BOOKDISK.EXE. You can download it to any directory.
Then run BOOKDISK.EXE and follow the instructions.

IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY USING 16-BIT BOOKS (Version 3.95):
IMPORTANT -- Don't install the current version over
an existing 16-bit version of BOOKS -- you will get errors if you do.
Instead, install to an empty directory -- the default is C:\BOOKS -- and
then do a BACKUP in your 16-bit BOOKS, and a RESTORE into the new version.
After your first 32-bit installation, you can install later versions over
it, just as before.
If you are using OverDrive, you may also need to change the BOOKS DIRECTORY

Downloading and Installing BOOKS on a Network Workstation
After you have installed the full version of BOOKS 7 on a network
disk drive on your computer network, you need to install the workstation
software on each workstation. To do this, download the file BOOKS7WS.EXE
to a network disk drive, and then use the RUN command in the START menu
to run this file from each workstation.
The workstation software installation file is a single file, about
5.7 MB, named BOOKS7WS.EXE. You should download it to a network disk
drive on your computer network. For example, if your network drive is
F:, you can download to F:\BOOKS7WS.EXE.

Now on each workstation use the RUN command in the START menu to
run F:\BOOKS7WS.EXE, and follow the instructions.

Changing your OverDrive Settings to use your 32-Bit BOOKS Version
Start OverDrive
Select OVERDRIVE SETUP in
the FILE menu
Click on the ADD button next
to BOOKS Directories. Here is what the BOOKS Directories box looks
like:
Select the directory where
you installed the 32-Bit version of BOOKS -- This will be C:\BOOKS
if you didn't change it during installation. This directory should
now appear in the BOOKS Directories box.
Click on your old Books Directory
entry in the BOOKS Directories box. This will be C:\BOOKSW if you
didn't change it.
Click on the DELETE button
to delete it. Here is what the BOOKS Directories box should look like
now.
Click on OK to close the OverDrive
