BOOKS Toolkit

BOOKS Toolkit is a separate program from BOOKS. It is found in the BOOKS directory (toolkit.exe).  It is designed to help you when things go wrong.  Some of the commands are the same as in BOOKS, but give you a way to use them when BOOKS won't open.  Others are available only in the Toolkit.  All are meant to be used for troubleshoooting.  All database management programs will have data corruption at some time, due to static electricity, electrical failure, turning of the computer without exiting the program, etc. With BOOKS you get the tools you need to recover.

File Cleanup
This Command provides the same file cleanup functions as that provided in the BOOKSTM File Utility Cleanup command, plus it can be used when BOOKS™ will not start due to file damage and you get the message "Not a Table/DBF file." Simply click on Cleanup and the Toolkit™ will repair your files and re-create every index.
File Backup
This command works the same as the File Backup command within BOOKS™, but will work even when your data has been so corrupted that you cannot get into BOOKS™.
File Smart Restore from Backup
This command is used when you have corrupted your file and you have entered orders since your last backup. Smart Restore will attempt to combine your backup file and changes made since the backup. It is not guaranteed that it will be able to do this. The real solution is to backup early and often. This command examines your BOOKS™ files for damage, and restores only the damaged files. Thus, you should always use SMART BACKUP (not FULL BACKUP) when you get an error like "Not A Database File" in BOOKS™, anf File Cleanup has not been able to solve your problem.
File Restore from Backup
This Command provides the same function to restore data from a backup file as that provided in the BOOKS File Utility Restore From Backup command. However, the Toolkit Version of Restore from Backup can be used even when BOOKS won't start properly due to file damage.
File Exit
Click on Exit to close the Toolkit™ program.
