Viewing, Sorting & Editing Orders  (cont.)

Use the View Sort by Name or the View Sort by Account command to group all of one client's trades and balances together. The list will be in entry date order within each account.

Cancel an Order

Cancel an order with this command on the Orders menu. Enter the person to whom you gave the cancellation and the date and time just as you would an execution. BOOKSä will ask you to verify the cancel by displaying the entire order screen and

saying "OK to Cancel this Order?". The order will still show on the Main View Screen, but you will know it is canceled by the C or K that will appear in the Status Column. The C is a confirmed cancellation of an open order, or the cancellation of a day order. The K is the Unconfirmed cancellation of an open order.

Edit an Order

You can edit an order after you entered it if you have made a typo or other error. Press C+E, or click on the Edit an Order command on the Orders Menu. Correct any errors, and choose OK.

Find an Order

This is a handy command if you do lots of trades and have to find a particular order from several days or weeks ago. Press Alt+F, or choose the Find an Order command from the Orders Menu. The Find an Order Window will pop up. You can enter into any field of this window what you want to match. You do not have to fill out all the fields, one or two is enough. For instance, you might know you did an order for Mrs. Giacola for some AAF, but you don't remember the price or the date. Put AAF in the symbol field, and Mrs. Giacola's account number in the account number field. Leave everything else blank. Choose "Find first." BOOKSä will search for you and stop with the highlight on the order in the Main View Screen. If that is a match, but not the one you were looking for, choose Find an Order, and click on Find Next. BOOKSä will find the next occurrence for you. Repeat until you have found the order you want.

Delete an Order

This command completely deletes an order and should be used with great care. Use it only if you have inadvertently duplicated an order, or if you have created a fictional order for practice, not to cancel an order. It is a good idea to use the File Utilities Cleanup command occasionally to permanently remove deleted orders. Click here for discussion of Troubleshooting.  This conserves disk storage space
