When you install your home office data, your securities list is expanded to include (with CUSIP numbers) every security held at the home office by any of your customers. Thus, you will probably start with an extensive securities list without doing any data entry. Once a security is in your securities list, merely typing the symbol into the order form on the screen will cause the security description, type, and primary exchange to be automatically filled in on your order ticket. You can add securities to your list from the securities menu, or on the fly as you enter orders. You can view your securities list at any time, and add, edit or delete securities from your list. Note that you can't delete a security if you have any orders or positions for it in your database. Also, if a security symbol changes, don't try to change the symbol in the securities list. Instead, add a new entry to the list with Add Security. If you are using OverDrive™ to enter your stock orders through the Pulse Order Entry system, you need to enter the security type. OverDrive™ checks for the security type to determine whether or not to enter an order. Entering Securities from the Securities Menu To enter a security into your list from the Securities Menu, either click on Securities on the menu bar, or type Ctrl+S to display the securities menu. Choose Add a Security by pointing and clicking with the mouse, or by typing A. The Enter a Security dialog box will appear on the screen. Fill in the information as indicated. While it is not necessary to enter all the data requested, you must fill in the description, security type, and exchange. If the security does not have a symbol, enter a six letter unique symbol that you make up. (For example, most insurance products do not have a security symbol, but you can make up a symbol meaningful to you. Entering Preferred Stocks If you wish to use OverDrive™ to enter orders for Preferred Stocks, you must enter the preferred stock symbol in BOOKS™ in the format used in the home office inquiry systems, not the ticker symbol, and not the format used in the wire order entry system (OverDrive™ converts the symbol to the appropriate format for the Wire Order Entry System). Specifically, type the stock symbol, a period, then PR, then the letter of the series if there is more than one preferred. For example, Salomon Brothers Preferred C would be entered by typing SB.PRC.
