Tracking Securities (cont.)

To enter a security while entering an order, simply type the symbol, description, type, and primary exchange on the order ticket, just as you would in filling out a paper ticket. As BOOKS saves the order, it checks if the security is already is in the database. If not then, BOOKS asks if you want to add the security to your list. If you indicate Y, the security is then added. You do not have the opportunity to enter the other securities information at this time. You can go back later and other information if you desire, by using the Edit Security command on the Securities menu.
View securities information

If you have previously bought a bond or preferred stock for a client, you may need to look at the full securities description or CUSIP number before you sell the security. The View Securities command on the Securities menu gives you the ability to check maturity date, series, etc., without digging out the customer statement. Type Alt-S to display the Securities Menu, and press V to view the securities list, or click with the mouse. The Securities list will pop up. Note that in the lower left corner of the box, you can view the list sorted by symbol, description or CUSIP number.
Highlight the desired security, then click on Details with the mouse to see the full listing, or use the Tab key to move to the Details button and press
Enter. If you are Viewing an Order, you can view securities detail by pressing Ctrl+S, then clicking on Details. Hit Esc twice to return to the order ticket.
Security Type
Security type is used to modify the the fields and labels on the order entry screen as appropriate for the type of security being entered, and is used by OverDrive™ to determine how to place orders in the Wire Order Entry System BOOKS™ for Windows  has a field for security type on the order ticket and in the security record. Types include Stock, Bond, Cash, CMO, UIT, Mutual Fund, Limited Partnership, Art/Collectibles, Real Estate, Personal Property, Option, Long-Term Option, Futures Contract, Annuity and Life Insurance Contract. To pick the type for a security,click on the arrow at the right side of the Security Type field box in the Security dialog. Your choices will be displayed. Click to highlight the one you want.
Safety
Your choices for Safety are 1 to 5, with 1 the safest and 5 the riskiest. Either type in the appropriate number or click on the arrow at the right of the box to choose. Click on OK to save.
Other Fields
You will see other fields on the enter a Security Window, but they will be grayed out and you will be unable to edit them. These tickets exist to preserve information from the backoffice data for you, but are not actively used in BOOKS at this time. They are simply reserved for possible future improvements.
