Keeping track of appointments and using the diary as a tickler file If you type something in on the Diary page while the highlight is on a certain date, that item will appear whenever you look at that date again. To remind yourself to call someone on a certain date, just put his or her name on the diary page while you have that date highlighted. When you open up the Calendar/Diary Window on that date, you will see the notation you made. Diary entries can be longer than the area you see on the screen. If you type in too much for the area that is visible, the Diary will automatically scroll its text upward to give you room. The length of a Diary entry is virtually unlimited. You can make the Diary windows larger by pulling on the lower right hand corner of the window with your mouse. To do this, point to the little square in the lower right corner, press down on the left mouse button, and while still holding down the button, move down and two the right. You will see the window expand. Diary entries are automatically saved when you use the mouse to close the Calendar/Dairy Window and when you exit BOOKS™. Finally, Bob says, "Okay, I have a CD maturing January 21. Give me a call about a week before it matures." Press Ctrl+T and press enter (or click on the Tools menu and then click on Calendar/Diary). The Calendar/Diary Window pops up, with today's date highlighted. By using the Page up key and the arrow keys, or clicking on the forward month button at the bottom of the Calendar, and clicking on the January 15, you position the highlight on January 15. Click with the mouse or press Tab to move the cursor to the Diary portion of the window. Type "Call Bob Jones - CD maturing January 21." Since you don't have any other notes or appointments to enter in your calendar, press Escape or click on the square button in the upper left corner of the window to close the window. Whenever you look at January 15 on your calendar, you will see your reminder to call Bob Jones. When you open BOOKS on January 15 and pop up your calendar, there will be your reminder.
