Troubleshooting

Sometimes there are problems with software no matter how well designed.  BOOKS includes many tools for making trouble calls infrequent.
Always try Clean Up first.
If BOOKS is acting strangely, but you can still open it, the
first thing that you should try is a File Utilities Cleanup.  The most common problem with any database management program is corruption of data, and the CleanUp command reindexes all your data and eliminates any fragments left from deleted orders.
Next. read through the text below to see if there

are other things that you could do to make your software run better.
In many cases, a review of the suggested Office Procedures for using BOOKS will make troubleshooting unnecessary in the future. Click here to read about Office Procedures.
Make sure you are running the Current Version: The currrent version of BOOKS is available on the BOOKS download page. Click here to download the current version.
Lack of Hard Drive space: A frequent cause of problems with BOOKS is a lack of disk space on your hard drive.  All Windows programs run better when there is ample free disk space on your C: drive for data swapping and other housekeeping functions.  Check the space on your hard drive by clicking on My Computer.  Highlight your C: drive with a single click, and you will see the status of the drive in the line at the bottom of the window.  If the free disk space is less than 30 MB, your problems may be caused by that.
To solve this problem, look for files on the C: drive that you can eliminate.  If, after closing all programs, you still have files ending with *.TMP or *.BAK, those files may be candidates for elimination.  Make sure that you have several backup files for BOOKS on floppy disk before eliminating any BOOKS backup files!  Other things that can use up disk drive space in a hurry are the History folder (that saves pages that you have visited on the Internet) in Windows, and loading graphics files onto your primary drive.
Lack of Memory: Another thing that can cause problems with BOOKS is if you do not have enough memory.  If you are running your quote program, Microsoft Word or Excel or Access, and a couple of instances of Rumba, then you should have at least 32 MB of RAM.  Memory beyond 32 MB of RAM may not make much difference, unless you are running applications that use a lot of graphics.
